How to create hand-lettered art with floral embellishments
Hand lettering is a fun way to turn words and letters into art. Designs range from a simple play on fonts and colors, while others go big with embellishments.
Today, we're getting fancy with florals with Macarena's hand-lettering tutorial! Check out her step-by-step process below to see how she creates her beautiful pieces and create one of your own! Take it away, Macarena!
Hi! I'm Macarena better known as @mletteringlover on Instagram. I've been practicing lettering for the past 3 years but it wasn't until last year that I discovered my love for flowers. A lot of people asked me if I could do a tutorial on how to do my #kraftandflorals pieces (or that's how I call them), so here it goes!
Sharpies and Posca markers (optional: you can use acrylic paint instead)
HOW TO CREATE A HAND-LETTERED QUOTE WITH FLORAL EMBELLISHMENTS:
Sketch everything using a pencil.
Start painting the flowers avoiding the letters.
This is how it should look:
Start painting the letters. Don't worry about it having too many inconsistencies because we will work on another layer later.
P.S. I recommend using this type of brushes in this step:
It should look like this:
Paint the black part of the butterfly (I often use a black sharpie to do this).
Paint a second layer of the letters.
Add all the details! This includes:
Adding details to the flowers
Drawing little flowers (I'm using posca and sharpie markers for this):
Adding little white dots (see previous photo)
Working on the shadows of the letters (with a pencil):
And erasing all the pencil lines!
And there it goes! It may not look easy, but it is!!! It should look something like this:
