How to create watercolor flowers
Keeping an art journal is a great way of getting into the habit of drawing and painting. You can use your journal to practice different art techniques and flesh out creative ideas, while also developing your personal art style along the way.
This is exactly how our featured artist of the week, Laia from Instagram @laia_journal, found her distinctive style. Starting an art journal allowed her to play with different mediums, experiment with a variety of painting and drawing techniques, and eventually find her own unique artistic voice.
Today, Laia will be taking us through her process of creating an art journal entry with this easy watercolor flowers tutorial. Check out the step by step instructions below!

Hi guys! My name is Laia from IG: @laia_journal. I started my first art journal one year ago, and during these months, I’ve been experimenting until I found my style. Watercolors are a must have on my journal pages. Here on Craftamo, I'll be showing you how to create flowers with watercolors using different color combinations.
HOW TO CREATE WATERCOLOR FLOWERS:
STEP 1
Divide your pages in circles. The subject that I’ve chosen is flowers, so each circle will have different flowers using different colors.
STEP 2
You should create the composition before painting. Draw (using a pencil) one flower, which will be the focus of your composition. Then, add smaller flowers around it.
STEP 3
You have to assign one color to each circle. In this case: I’ve chosen yellow and blue.
STEP 4
Paint your flowers using watercolors. Add water in different zones to give texture to the petals.
STEP 5
Paint small flowers and add details using different tones of yellow and blue.
STEP 6
Once everything is dry, I always use a black marker to outline the details of each flower, and to add contrast.
STEP 7
Erase the pencil marks and draw the circle using a black pen, and then a pen of the colors that you’ve chosen (yellow and blue).
STEP 8
Let’s decorate the background! You can use watercolors or markers for the background.
