How to Stay Creative This 2018: 5 Realistic Resolutions for Artists
The new year has finally rolled in! For most people, the start of the new year signifies a clean slate and a chance to make things better. We make new plans, set new goals, and hope that by the end of the year, we’ve achieved everything we’ve set out to do. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to do so.
If you want to accomplish all your goals at a year’s time, it’s important to set realistic resolutions for yourself. For artists, here are 5 practical resolutions you can follow that are sure to enhance your creativity this 2018.
5 TIPS ON HOW TO STAY CREATIVE THIS 2018:
1. Set a schedule
Keep a calendar and create a daily schedule for painting, drawing, or crafting! Remember that you can only get better if you practice, so setting aside an hour a day to make art is instrumental to see progress. Setting a deadline is also a good way to ensure that you’re completing all your artworks and projects within a certain time frame. Though there are a lot of ways of being creative, being organized and managing your time wisely is the first step to help you stick to your goals.
2. Learn a new art form or medium
Want to enhance your creativity? Learn a new art form or try out a medium you haven’t mastered yet! Though this may seem intimidating at first, the novelty of this exercise can push you out of your comfort zone and prevent stagnancy. If you don’t know where to start, you can always take a class or look for tutorials online that will help you master your new skill.
3. Start a blog or share your work on social media
Did you know that blogging and posting on social media can help boost creativity? Your blog is a great place to share creative ideas and artworks, talk about things that inspire you, plan future projects, connect with other like-minded people, and gain exposure in the process. The idea is to make a commitment to post as often as you can. You’ll be surprised at how opening yourself up to other people will keep you motivated and inspired throughout the year.
4. Accept customer orders
Do commission work this 2018! This is a significant step if you want to go pro and sell your work. You can start small at first and let family and friends know you are accepting custom orders. You can also create a website or promote yourself on social media to work on more projects. This will prove to be challenging, but it will definitely keep the creativity flowing.
5. Keep an art journal
Keep an art journal or notebook to use for drawing or painting. Make it a habit to draw on your journal everyday and, by the end of the year, you’ll see just how much you’ve improved! Try to draw anything that comes to your mind to keep this exercise spontaneous. You’ll see that some of your creative ideas often start with just a simple doodle or sketch.
Learning how to stay creative can be difficult at times, but putting in the work and persevering is sure to give you a fruitful and rewarding 2018. Good luck on your creative journey!
